Rethinking global food security and sustainable agriculture: from Europe to the World

A keynote address on food security was delivered at FFA2015 by Phil Hogan, European Agriculture and Rural Development Commissioner, who stressed that the EU is committed to playing a key role in satisfying global food demand and security. He explained that it does so by enhancing the agri-food sector’s overall competitiveness through consistent and non-trade distorting policies and by promoting innovation. He clarified that the EU broadly welcomes the Sustainable Development Goals. But to be credible, he stressed the need for clear, ambitious and realistic targets.
