Mother Earth and Gandhian Nonviolence

Arun Gandhi admitted his surprise at being invited to address the Forum. What possible interest could a gathering of people discussing agriculture have in the philosophy of nonviolence, he had asked himself. Then, Mahatma Ghandi’s grandson realised there was a connection. “I call myself a peace farmer and so as a farmer I’m part of this group of agriculturalists. The only difference is that I plant seeds of peace and I hope these seeds will germinate and we can get a good crop of people,” he explained to his audience in a thought provoking opening address.
